Enrollment and Attendance FAQs
Who is eligible to attend New Mexico Virtual Academy?
Any student in grades 6-12 who resides in New Mexico is eligible for full-time enrollment.
Can I enroll my child in both New Mexico Virtual Academy and another school?
No. Dual enrollment is not available at NMVA. Students will be enrolled in our school on a full-time basis.
How many of my children can I enroll in New Mexico Virtual Academy?
Because New Mexico Virtual Academy provides all the lesson plans and materials needed for grades 6-12, many parents find it easy to enroll multiple children in the program. We currently have families with as many as five children in the program being guided by one teaching adult in conjunction with the support of New Mexico Virtual Academy teachers.
What does it cost to attend New Mexico Virtual Academy?
Since New Mexico Virtual Academy is a public school program, there is no tuition. New Mexico Virtual Academy provides a state-licensed teacher and all instructional materials for the program. However, students and families will be responsible for providing some consumable materials (such as printer ink and paper). In addition, students in grades 6-8 will be provided one desktop computer per family. High school students will receive one desktop computer per student. Internet subsidies will be provided on a case-by-case basis based on eligibility. This determination will be made during the enrollment process.
What is the attendance policy?
New Mexico Virtual Academy works with families toward a positive attendance record to meet their required number of 180 instructional days.
Can I take a vacation during the school year?
The school calendar includes school "holidays" or vacation time. Whenever possible, family vacations should align with school vacation days. Parents are encouraged to contact their teacher if they plan a vacation that does not coordinate with the school calendar.
